Living The Unimaginable

Gibbs spent the first five years of his life as a test subject in an animal testing lab. He was repeatedly used for cruel and unnecessary toxicity testing along with over 200 beagles, hounds, and cats at a lab in the midwest United States. Often spending months on end in a loud, smelly, lonely cage.

When I first communicated with Gibbs I saw him as a wise, old soul. He was initially hesitant to talk to me - can you blame him? - but graciously agreed and showed me his world as a test subject.

Gibbs took me on a brief tour of the lab, showing me a large, lumbering man in coveralls walking toward, then leaning over, a dog in an indoor kennel. The man did something to the dog, then left. I heard the clank of the kennel door close. Gibbs was extremely anxious as he showed me this scene.

At the time I spoke with Gibbs, he and all the animals at that horrific lab had been liberated and Gibbs was in a foster home.

After he showed me the scene of the dog in the run I told him all the dogs at the lab were now safe. He then asked me if he was free, to which I replied “yes!” He was incredibly relieved.

We then went on to talk about his foster home; him showing me images from his walks, and telling me how much he cared about his foster mom.

I later went on to adopt Gibbs, speaking with him throughout his two day journey from Texas to Seattle. He has settled in with our pack beautifully and is a loving, happy boy.
