The River

I got to know a lost Husky named Archie and spent hundreds of hours communicating with him. I was with him through some very scary times and some incredibly beautiful moments. One conversation that will forever remain sacred to me happened early on in his “adventure”.

As a prelude to connecting with Archie I sometimes used a specific meditation and this particular time I immediately merged with him. The moment I connected with him, I was instantly hit with the most vivid imagery - I was looking through Archie’s eyes in real time.

We were standing at the bank of a wide, shallow river. Dappled sunlight was filtering through the most vibrant green pine trees I had ever seen. Emerald green grass, moss and ferns lined the riverbank. The river was pristine, crystal clear and seemed to be moving slower than it should. Even though I knew the current was moving fast I could see the flow of water moving leisurely over each rock and pebble underneath.

Everything seemed to slow down as I took it all in. Colors were vibrant without being too saturated, the sunlight was bright but not blinding. We stood there looking at the river for a few minutes, me, in absolute awe of the magnificence of it all, wondering “is this the way he sees things?” I didn’t want to leave, I wanted to stay forever. It was one of the most visually stunning and magical experiences I’ve ever had.

Seeing things through the lens of another being has taught me to slow down and appreciate the beauty around me because if we take the time to look it is always there.
